My name is Tim Drobnyk I am running for a seat on the Sanibel City Council in the upcoming election to be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021.  I feel fortunate to have been a resident of our island for the last 21 years, and I know we made the right decision to raise our family within this community.  My wife, Bobbye, moved here with her family in the early 1980s, and both of our teen age children, Dean and Bailey, have called Sanibel ‘home’ for their entire lives. Sanibel Island has provided an environment where my children have been able to become part of the community, have made lifelong friends, and have learned the value of being giving, trustworthy, and caring individuals. These are characteristics we can only hope to instill on our children, and the Sanibel community has played a vital role in creating who they are today. My goal is to maintain and continue these values of community going forward.

I feel it is incumbent on the City Council to continue down the path that was created by the founders, and subsequent leaders, of our city through the Sanibel Plan. Initially adopted in 1976, the Sanibel Plan outlines how we as a community should address environmental conservation, community support systems, land use, and other operational needs. Carefully following this plan with thoughtful adaptation will keep us on course for generations to come.

The very nature of my career allows me to promote our community to others wishing to live here.  It has been easy for me to encourage new residents of our island to get involved with our service organizations, philanthropies, schools, and civic organizations. While being a member of the Kiwanis Club of Sanibel & Captiva Islands, I have seen how willing our residents are to help with the needs of others.  Through working with the city and managing our youth sports programs for the last 10 years, I have seen our families come together each week to watch our children have fun, learn skills, and create lasting memories.

I am proud to call Sanibel my home.  I am encouraged to have the opportunity to further serve my community, and I hope you will support me in my quest to become a City Council member.

Thank you, Tim Drobnyk
